These types of networks do not have any infrastructure and repeatedly configure themselves to connect with different devices in their communication range.

Manet stands for mobile adhoc network also called as wireless adhoc network or adhoc wireless network that usually has a routable networking environment on top of a link layer ad hoc network. It also faces a multitude of security threats just like wired networks. This can be a standard wi fi connection or another medium such as a cellular or satellite transmission. Because manets are mobile they use wireless connections to connect to various networks.

Manets are both self forming and self healing enabling peer level communications between mobile nodes without reliance on centralized resources or fixed infrastructure. The application of this wireless network is limited due to the mobile and ad hoc nature. A mobile ad hoc network manet is generally defined as a network that has many free or autonomous nodes often composed of mobile devices or other mobile pieces that can arrange themselves in various ways and operate without strict top down network administration. They consist of set of mobile nodes connected wirelessly in a self configured self healing network without having a fixed infrastructure.
